Drizzling rain didn't prevent actors Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst from the red carpet as "Spider-Man 3" made its global debut in Tokyo on Monday.

The third film finds Maguire's Peter Parker/Spider-Man battling his dark side, and facing two new villains -- Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) and Venom (Topher Grace).

The film also stars James Franco as Parker's friend-turned-adversary James Franco, who turns up in the guise of the new Goblin -- an offshoot of his father's (Willem Dafoe) villainous alter ego, the Green Goblin, from the first "Spider-Man" movie.

Maguire was uncertain about the prospect of doing a fourth Spider-Man movie.

"I feel like this film is kind of a natural conclusion to a lot of stuff that's happened in the first two movies," Maguire said.

Maguire called "Spider-Man 3" a "natural conclusion to a lot of stuff that's happened in the first two movies" and said the series now "feels like a natural trilogy." He said he'd be up for a fourth film "if a story presents itself -- if we come up with something we feel deserves to be told."

The film will open May 1 in Japan and May 4 in North America and several other markets worldwide.

Sam Raimi, who directed the first two film films in the trilogy, also was at the helm for "Spider-Man 3." The film is based on the iconic Marvel comic book character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
