'Spider-Man 3' Opens Huge Overseas

Film Has Biggest Opening Day Ever In Several Countries

"Spider-Man 3" is off and flying, with record-setting opening-day ticket revenues in Asia on Tuesday.

The film, which opens in the U.S. Friday, topped the first-day grosses for "Spider-Man" and "Spider-Man 2" in both Japan and South Korea. It enjoyed the biggest opening day ever for any film in Japan and South Korea.

In Japan, the film's first day brought in an estimated $3.5 million. In South Korea the take was $3.4 million. Opening in 16 foreign territories Tuesday, the film also reportedly set record openings in France, Italy, Belgium, Egypt and Hong Kong, taking in more than $29 million overall. `

Tobey Maguire returns for his third "Spider-Man" film as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and this time faces three villains -- Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Venom (Topher Grace) and the New Goblin (James Franco).

The film also stars Kirsten Dunst as Parker's longtime love Mary Jane, Bryce Dallas Howard as his friend Gwen Stacy, Rosemary Harris as Aunt May and J.K. Simmons the cantankerous Daily Bugle newspaper editor J. Jonah Jameson.

Sam Raimi is back in the director's chair for his third consecutive "Spider-Man" film.
