Scranton, Pa., To Host 'Office' Convention

Gathering To Include 'Office' Olympics

POSTED: 3:10 pm CDT October 24, 2007

The city that was put on the map by "The Office" is hosting a convention to celebrate the show.

The exploits of the employees of the fictional paper supply company Dunder-Mifflin are chronicled in the hit television series -- a mockumentary-style comedy set in Scranton, Pa.

The inaugural "Office Convention" promises to be as quirky as the show itself. Highlights include an "Office" Olympics, a character look-alike contest, appearances by the cast and crew and performances by the Scrantones, the band that recorded the show's theme music.

In its fourth season, the Americanized version of the acclaimed British series boasts a devoted following and city leaders have done their best to capitalize on it. The convention starts Friday with the "Today" show's Al Roker broadcasting live from the University of Scranton.

About 2,000 tickets ranging from $25 to $250 have been sold so far.

Fourteen cast members will be at the convention, but none of the main actors -- Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer or John Krasinski -- have signed on.

"The Office" won an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2006.
