Here's a dose of morning news:

  • With the long-anticipated increase in interest rates from the Federal Reserve Board behind it, stock traders in Europe and Japan instead turned their attention to financial data, which prompted solid stock gains across Europe and in Tokyo.
  • The Cassini spacecraft squeezed through a gap between two of Saturn's rings last night, reaching the final destination of its 2 billion-mile journey and beginning a four-year tour of the planet and its 31 known moons.
  • Despite political pledges to reduce wait times for Canadians seeking to enter the nation's health system, there has been little change in the waiting lists and reported "difficulties" in getting prompt attention in the last three years.
  • The two astronauts aboard the International Space Station left the craft vacant as both completed a tricky six-hour spacewalk to repair a circuit breaker after a failed attempt last week.
