Foxx, 'Sideways' Big SAG Nominees

'Neverland,' 'Baby,' 'Aviator,' 'Rwanda' Also Top Nominees

The quirky road comedy "Sideways" led the nominations for the 11th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Tuesday in Los Angeles, earning four nods including Outstanding Performance by a Male Lead for Paul Giamatti.

"Ray" star Jamie Foxx was also a big nominee, earning three nods for his film roles (one as part of "Ray's" ensemble cast) and one for television.

A darling of several critics' organizations, "Sideways" also nabbed Outstanding Supporting Male (Thomas Haden Church) and Outstanding Supporting Female (Virginia Madsen), as well a nomination for Outstanding Ensemble Cast.

The James M. Barrie tale "Finding Neverland," the boxing drama "Million Dollar Baby," the genocide drama "Hotel Rwanda" and the Howard Hughes biopic "The Aviator" each earned three nominations.

Last year's SAG Award winner for Outstanding Actor, Johnny Depp, got his second consecutive nod in the category for his lead role in "Finding Neverland." Facing off against Depp and Giamatti in the category are Leonardo DiCaprio for "The Aviator," Don Cheadle for "Hotel Rwanda" and Foxx for "Ray."

In the Outstanding Female Lead race, the nominees are Annette Bening for "Being Julia"; Catalina Sandino Moreno for "Maria Full of Grace"; Imelda Staunton for "Vera Drake"; Hilary Swank for "Million Dollar Baby" and Kate Winslet for "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."

Taking on Church in the Outstanding Supporting Male category are Foxx for "Collateral"; Morgan Freeman for "Million Dollar Baby"; James Garner for "The Notebook" and child actor Freddie Highmore for "Finding Neverland."

Facing off against Madsen for Outstanding Supporting Female Cate Blanchett for "The Aviator"; Cloris Leachman for "Spanglish"; Laura Linney for "Kinsey" and Sophie Okonedo for "Hotel Rwanda."

In addition to "Sideways," the nominees for Outstanding Ensemble Cast are "The Aviator," "Finding Neverland," "Hotel Rwanda," "Million Dollar Baby" and "Ray."

Screen Actors Guild President Melissa Gilbert introduced Rosario Dawson ("Alexander") and James Denton ("Desperate Housewives"), who announced the nominations.

In addition to his two film nods, Foxx earned a SAG nomination in the television category, for Outstanding Male in a Movie or Miniseries for "Redemption." There he will take on William H. Macy for "The Wool Cap"; Barry Pepper for "3: The Dale Earnhardt Story"; Geoffrey Rush for "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers" and Jon Voight for "Mitch Albom's the Five People You Meet in Heaven."

Another film nominee, Swank, won a television nomination, for Outstanding Female in a Movie or Miniseries for "Iron Jawed Angels." Also up for the honor are Glenn Close for "The Lion in Winter"; Patricia Heaton for "Neil Simon's the Goodbye Girl"; Keke Palmer for "The Wool Cap" and Charlize Theron for "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers."

Jerry Orbach, who died at the end of December, was tapped by SAG for a posthumous nomination for Outstanding Male in a Drama Series for "Law & Order." Also up for the award are Hank Azaria for "Huff"; James Gandolfini for "The Sopranos"; Anthony LaPaglia for "Without a Trace" and Kiefer Sutherland for "24."

In the Outstanding Female in a Drama Series race, the nominees are Drea de Matteo for "The Sopranos"; Edie Falco for "The Sopranos"; Jennifer Garner for "Alias"; Allison Janney for "The West Wing" and Christine Lahti, "Jack & Bobby."

The Outstanding Male in a Comedy Series are Jason Bateman for "Arrested Development"; Sean Hayes for "Will & Grace"; Ray Romano for "Everybody Loves Raymond"; Tony Shalhoub, for "Monk" and Charlie Sheen, "Two and a Half Men."

Up for the Outstanding Female in a Comedy Series award are Teri Hatcher for "Desperate Housewives"; Heaton for "Everybody Loves Raymond"; Megan Mullally for "Will & Grace"; Sarah Jessica Parker for "Sex and the City" and Doris Roberts for "Everybody Loves Raymond."

Like the feature film category, SAG awards the ensemble casts in television.

Vying for the drama series award are "24," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "Six Feet Under," "The Sopranos" and "The West Wing" while "Arrested Development," "Desperate Housewives," "Everybody Loves Raymond," "Sex and the City" and "Will & Grace" are up for comedy series ensemble.

The 11th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will stage Feb. 5 in Los Angeles. As previously announced, James Garner will be honored with the guild's Lifetime Achievement Award.
