Julie Andrews Returns To First Broadway Show, But As Director

TORONTO -- Legendary actress Julie Andrews is coming full circle on her stage career -- by directing a new version of the first musical she was ever in on Broadway.The musical, called "The Boy Friend," is a send-up of 1920s musicals.Andrews told the Canadian Press, that since she's not singing these days, "this is lovely."She said she had her "wonderful moment with it and now it's somebody else's chance to do it."Andrews said she'd been considering directing, but it was her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton, who talked her into it.Julie Andrews' version of "The Boy Friend" will soon tour North America.In addition to starring on stage and in such film classics as "The Sound of Music," "Mary Poppins" and "Victor/Victoria," Andrews has also written children's books with Hamilton.Andrews most recent screen projects included a voice role in "Shrek 2" and a starring role in "The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement," which were both in theaters last summer.
