Mystery Cam: Anybody Hungry?

Well, here we go. The mid-morning hunger is setting in. You'd think I'd learn by now. You'd think I'd pack a breakfast bar ... or schedule in a mid-morning bagel run ... or at least a vending machine trip. But no. Nothing. My stomach is on its own -- again. I know what you're thinking -- "Why don't you just eat breakfast in the morning, silly girl?" Well, it's one of those things. Back in the day, I did wake up 15 minutes earlier and enjoy a hearty bowl of cereal before starting my day. But the mid-morning hunger pangs only seemed stronger -- and I ended up eating all the time. Besides, I've found great value in those extra 15 minutes of sleep. So I suffer. And whine. A lot. I've decided that this no-food thing might actually be good for me, despite my whining. It's one of the few forms of self-denial I still practice. Being young and single has allowed me to become pretty selfish -- and denying myself this one small pleasure is gratifying -- in a way. ... Not that I still wouldn't take food if it were offered. And I let my coworkers know -- constantly -- that I would relieve them of any extra food they might be hoarding. I even had a couple of the guys at nearby cubes almost convinced that it was their job to make sure my hunger was satiated. Always. But that fell through, too, as soon as they realized I was serious. Anyway -- it's only a few more hours until lunch. And I have Netcams to distract me until then. Any guesses yet on this week's location?

Last Week

Well, guess what. (No, not seriously. You already have one thing to guess. Get to work!) Edd flew the coop again -- this time literally. As I type, he's strolling down the streets of Paris, sipping café and nibbling a croissant, no doubt. Anyway, he left me the location of last week's Mystery Cam -- it was Bonaire, an island in the Dutch Antilles. And it proved to be darn hard, too -- only a few people guessed right. I wish I could explain his clues to you -- but I can't. I forgot to get the full explanation from Edd before he left the country. If you're really fed up about the "salt" reference (and many of you may be -- the vast majority of you guessed Salt Lake City, Utah), you can e-mail him and ask. The winners were: Alice C. Parker, Maggie Rioux and Jim Jordan -- and, impressively, Jim was inventive and ambitious enough to seek Bonaire e-cards and send them to Edd and I!

This Week's Clues

Netcam 6-7So here's this week's picture. Yup. There it is. The thing that struck me the most about this is ... well, the picture itself. I didn't expect this place to look like this. I don't know if I expected fields of potatoes or what. (Of course, I've never been there, so how would I know?) Anyway, this particular place spices up its long, boring winters with a carnival -- begun in 1924 by an Olympic athlete who called this place home. Most people don't think this area is boring, though, because it attracts tourists who come to enjoy year-round outdoor activities. And although the city is small, it's not too far from an urban hub. OK, that's all you're getting. Remember, if these clues weren't enough, you can always dig through our state and country Netcam pages to try to find this cam. We have two leftover Woody Allen videos for the first two winners ("Interiors" and "Stardust Memories") -- and the first three correct respondents will be named next week. So get to work! E-mail me your guesses -- I need the distraction from my empty tummy.
