Mystery Cam: I'm Laura

Yup, Laura. That's Me

Hey there! Laura here. Yup, this is Laura, taking my turn at the Webcams column. Yup. You know, I'm on vacation right now, traipsing around New England with some buds, but I had to just check in for a minute and tell you all what a terrific guy Edd is. Witty, debonair, suave, with just enough male pattern baldness to add a touch of well-worn sophistication to his chiseled face. And would you believe it? He's single! For some unfathomable reason, this primo catch doesn't have ladies lined up outside his door. Woman to woman, ladies, I'd advise getting on the train before it leaves the station, and then travels westward at a speed of 50 miles an hour, while another train travels eastward at a speed of 30 miles an hour, if you catch my drift. In fact, I, uh … oh, I can't keep up this charade any longer! This isn't Laura at all, this is Edd. Laura is on vacation and I'm covering for her. Sorry for the cheap trickery; it's just so hard to meet single ladies in this city who are into Webcams, rap music, Irish food, "Body by Jake," cute puppies, skeet shooting, and the occasional nostalgic jaunt to the Union Carbide Smelting Plant in Spooner, Wisconsin. Anyway, I suppose we should get to the Webcam thing. Below you'll find an image that has been taken from one of the links to the left of this column. Try to figure out from whence the image comes, check the exact location among the links, and write me with a guess. And your likes and dislikes, turn-ons, hobbies, ideal qualities in a mate, favorite pieces of smelting machinery -- you know, the usual. The first three with right answers get their names in next week's column, with the ever-present possibility of something more.

Last Week:

Last week I mainly sat by the windowsill, my arms tight around my favorite stuffed bear, staring at the stars, wondering if maybe you were looking at the same stars just at that moment -- but in my spare time I wrote a column. In it, I featured a picture of Madeira, a group of islands off the coast of Portugal. As is my wont, I made the clues as obscure as possible, making reference to the leste, which is a hot Sahara wind that occasionally plagues this otherwise idyllic area. I also made a jokey reference to its capital city, Funchal, saying that it's "fun plus more." Yup, that's the kind of cutting-edge humor you get around here. Then I mentioned Henry, Peter and Maria, which referred to some important figures in Portugese history, Henry of Burgundy, Henry the Navigator, Peter I-III and Maria I-II. The winners were Amy Brooks, Michael Cordum and Mystery Cam mainstay Jim Jordan.

This Week:

Click on image for larger viewThis week I decided to go a little easier. This is a favorite vacation spot for baseball All-Star Tony Gwynn, and an all-around, fast-moving city. Click on the image for a larger view. It's a city where you might find the inspiration for a certain curly-haired redhead. And that's all I'm going to tell you, because I think I've made it plenty easy for a few of you to get it right. Any guesses?
