Mellencamp, King Teaming For Musical

Rocker Says Production Will Have No Rock Songs

Don't expect "Jack and Diane" crossed with "The Shining" in the musical that John Mellencamp and Stephen King are putting together.

John MellencampMellencamp says he's written five songs and "there's not one rock song." He says he has about 10 more songs to write for the musical.

According to Mellencamp's Web site, the yet-untitled musical is a ghost story about two brothers that are competitive and dislike each other.

Stephen KingMellencamp says that King's writing is beautiful and he describes the plot as "an American story."

Mellencamp expects to get together with King in February to finish it. In the meantime, Mellencamp's 20th album, "Cuttin' Heads," will be released this fall.

King has some musical talent himself. He occasionally plays in a band called the Rock Bottom Remainders.
