Patrón Offers Super Bowl-Themed Cocktails

This year's Super Bowl offers up a tussle between two of the most storied franchises in NFL history. On one side, you have the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have been something of a juggernaut the last few years as long as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger remembers to keep his motorcycle helmet on and his hands to himself. On the other hand, you have the Green Bay Packers, who with their quarterback Bret Favre (playing this year from a Jazzy Power Chair) will challenge for the title.

Wait, Favre's gone? Then who ... oh. I've been informed that Aaron Rodgers is now the quarterback of the Packers. I'm sure he's a great fellow, and I'll feel sorry for him when Favre comes out of retirement again and stumbles onto the field, moaning something about "Brainsssss" and heads for the huddle.

In any case, unless you're in Dallas with tickets to the game, you're got to get a Super Bowl party together. All this week in the Recipes of the Day section, we've been running appetizer and drink recipes that will get you well on the way to having a groaning table. Big Tex Margarita

1.5 oz Patrón Reposado
.75 oz Patrón Citrónge
.5 oz Lime Juice
.25 oz agave nectar
Lime wheel

In a mixing tin full of ice, combine Patrón Reposado, Patrón Citrónge, lime juice, and agave nectar. Shake well, strain, and serve in martini glass or over fresh ice in lowball glass. Garnish with lime wheel.

The Fair Catch

2 oz Patrón Anejo
.5 oz Agave syrup
2 dash Angostura Bitters
1 dash Orange bitters
Garnish orange/lime twist

Combine ingredients in a double rocks glass with ice, and stir for 30 seconds. Garnish with a lime twist/orange peels.

The Silver Bullet

1.5 oz Patrón Silver
.75 oz Lime Juice
.75 oz White Creme de Cacao
dash Mist of Pastis

Combine all ingredients in glass and pour over fresh ice.

The Maxim Mule

1.5 oz Ultimat Vodka
.25 oz Splash of Lime
3 oz Fever Tree Ginger Beer

Combine all ingredients in glass over ice or strain into martini glass.
