Tip: Sangiovese Wine
POSTED: 7:27 pm EST January 23, 2005
Sangiovese is one of the top two red grapes (the other being Nebbiolo) in Italy, where it is extensively planted. Generally, Sangiovese wines are high in acid, with moderate to high tannins, and medium levels of alchhol. There is a hint of earthiness, and the flavor is usually not boldly fruity. The Sangiovese grape is dominant in Italy's well-known Chianti wines, but a percentage of white grapes (10 to 20 percent) is also added.
