Expand Your Recipe File

Most people have a core of about 10 recipes they rely on for their family meals. One step toward lifelong nutrition is to make sure your core of recipes taste great, are healthful and are easy to make.

Invest some time to explore new and interesting recipes and start experimenting in the kitchen. When you find a recipe that is a winner, put it in your rotation.

Look for healthy recipes for at least 10 main dishes, including a meatless main dish as well as lean beef, poultry and fish. Also try to find a recipe or two you can prepare in a slow cooker for those nights you will not be home to cook.

Finally, experiment with different recipes for vegetables and fruits. For example, many kids who are picky about cooked carrots love them sautéed with a touch of butter and brown sugar.
