Do Vegetarians Get Enough Nutrients?

Grains Can Provide Protein

POSTED: 11:20 am CDT March 17, 2008

Myth: Vegetarian diets lack protein and calcium.

Fact: Many plant-based foods contain protein. Grain foods, such as bread; cereal; pasta and rice or nuts; beans; and tofu are just a few vegetable-based foods that contain protein.

Vegetarians who don't eat dairy products can easily obtain calcium from green, leafy vegetables such as spinach and collard greens and foods fortified with calcium.
