Egg Proteins Boost Strength, Study Says

Protein Benefits May Be Strongest In Morning

The protein in eggs helps build muscle power and provide energy, according to a new study promoted by the American Egg Board.

The study also said that most people get enough protein each day, but not the high-quality protein they need.

Donal Layman of the University of Illinois said that besides their health benefits, eggs are also affordable.

"Most protein consumption occurs in the evening, even though there are significant benefits to consuming more protein at breakfast, such as stimulation of muscle protein synthesis and long-lasting satiety," he said. A news release on the new review said that other work has shown that people who had eggs for breakfast felt fuller through the day than those who had protein later.

One possible drawback to eating eggs is that they are high in cholesterol. One egg has about 213 milligrams of cholesterol, and the maximum suggested daily intake is about 300 mg, according to the Mayo Clinic. Experts there say, however, that dietary cholesterol may not be as dangerous for your heart.

If you wish to eat eggs without taking the cholesterol, eat eag whites only.

The new study was published in the journal Nutrition Today.
