Too much wine might make you feel sick, but just the right amount could make your stomach feel better, according to new a new study.

According to a recent issue of the American Journal of Gastroenterology, moderate consumption of wine, defined as about a glass a day, helps to fight stomach ulcers.

The study found that wine helps ward off the bacteria known as h. pylori, known for causing stomach ulcers.

In fact, researchers found that wine decreased h. pylori in patients by 11 percent.

Up until now, the only known way to battle the bacteria was prescription antibiotics.

However, Dr. Walter Peterson, of the Dallas VA Medical Center, isn't surprised to hear that wine battles bacteria.

"It is probably related to something in the fermentation process ... something is released into the beverage which has a beneficial effect on the stomach and a detrimental effect on the bacteria in the stomach," Peterson said.
