BOSTON -- Some recalled pain relievers have stayed on store shelves, WCVB-TV in Boston reported. The recall involved batches of popular pain medications including Tylenol, St. Joseph's and Motrin. At least 70 consumers reported getting sick from a musty, moldy smell. The odor caused nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.McNeil, the drug maker, recalled all products that may have been tainted in mid-January.While most of the pain killers on store shelves are safe, a viewer contacted the station after discovering at least one potentially tainted product at the Star Market in Chestnut Hill, Mass.He said he purchased Motrin at the store. He said once he realized it was on the recall list, he notified the manager, who he said promised to remove it from store shelves. However, the station later found several recalled products still on the shelves at the store. Reporters cross-checked the recall list with medications on store shelves. They discovered the recalled Motrin, along with four other products on the recall list, still available. One of those products was a product lot of Tylenol Arthritis Pain, which was part of a 2009 recall for the same moldy smell. In a statement, the supermarket said “at Shaw’s and Star Market, the health and safety of our customers is a top priority. Immediately upon learning of this situation, we initiated an investigation into the matter. In addition, we are conducting spot checks at our stores and warehouse to help ensure compliance.”McNeil's has a full list of recalled products.
