The term tendonitis is thrown around a lot, but what causes this common pain and how can it be treated?Anytime there is tendonitis, it means that there is inflammation of a tendon. Tendons are what holds our bones in place. So when these become irritated or inflamed, it can cause a lot of terrible pains. Tendonitis occurs in places around the body such as the knees, shoulders, or possibly in the elbows. What you will notice when you have tendonitis is a lot of swelling, aching, and feelings of tenderness in the affected areas. A lot of people will also notice that they seem to have a feeling of burning around whichever area has the inflamed tendon.Tendonitis often occurs due to overuse of certain muscles and joints over time. Many athletes will experience tendonitis due to constant activity. Also, anyone that has occupations that require labor is more liable to have tendonitis. It is also important to know that tendonitis can result from aging in the body. This is due to the fact that as the body continues to age, bones lose a lot of their flexibility and therefore, tendonitis may occur. It is not really that difficult to diagnose tendonitis and it can be done with just an initial examination.A lot of the treatment for tendonitis can be done at home. One of the things that are recommended is to not persist in doing the activity which brought the problem on to begin with. Instead, the area with tendonitis needs a complete rest for a few weeks so that it may heal. After that point, it is usually recommended to begin doing some very gentle exercise. Some orthopedic doctors might recommend that you wear a brace on the affected areas. Wearing a brace is supportive of the inflamed tendon, and helps to keep the area immobile to allow proper healing.Getting massages for your tendonitis is also helpful, though at first, painful until the painful area is worked out. The massage is a good painful feeling, but you will have to go more than once in order for this treatment form to be effective at all.Over the counter anti-inflammatory medicines will help in relieving the pain. Taking Aleve, Advil, or Motrin are some of the best choices. There is also such as treatment known as ultrasound treatment. This treatment uses some high powered sound waves which helps to break down your scar tissue so that it gives the tendon that is inflamed, faster healing.
