How do you go from heavy to hunk and lose 200 pounds in a little over a year? It may not be as complicated as you think.

Willpower paid off for a New Jersey man.

For most of his adult life, Aaron Arnold (pictured, right) felt every bit of his 410 pounds, reported WCAU-TV in Philadelphia. Arnold's waist was 60 inches, and one of his shirts, which was a 6X, barely fit him.

"I was obese, and I was tired of being that heavy, and I had to do something about it," Arnold said. "I was eating a whole pizza by myself. I even ate three Big Macs -- at one time, with a large Coke."

Finally, Arnold had had enough. But he didn't resort to surgery or a fad diet. He lost 200 pounds in a little over a year the old-fashioned way -- with a healthy diet and exercise.

"I did it here at home, in my small apartment, and I did it all by myself," Arnold said.

Arnold didn't ask anybody for advice, and he didn't get a diet from a doctor.

Arnold started out easy by taking walks with his girlfriend, Crystal. Then he gradually built up to strength training.

"For dinner tonight, maybe I might have some hamburger meat. This is my lean beef. It only has 4 ounces, 8 grams of fat. I don't eat the high fat," Arnold said.

Arnold eats a lot of vegetables, protein, pasta, brown rice, chicken and fish. No sugar or alcohol is allowed.

Protein shakes are now a big part of Arnold's diet since he has lost his weight.

"Mostly protein -- 20 grams of protein. There you go. Two scoops. That's 40 grams of protein," Arnold said. "(It) helps me build muscles, lose weight, cut body fat -- (it) does all that."

Arnold takes vitamins, but that is all he takes for supplements. He never took steroids, pills, enhancements or growth hormones.

He hopes to inspire others.

"I try to work out, eat right. I guarantee your weight will come off you. Maybe not as fast as you want it to, but it will come off of you," Arnold said.
