When you go into a car dealer, you would never think of paying the sticker price.

Even when dealers try to pull that "One Sticker/One Price" to convince us we can't possibly haggle them any lower, we still bargain. That's because that's how we've always bought cars. Some of us are better negotiators than others, but the expectation is there: For cars, we negotiate.

But the same can be true when you walk into your favorite store.

Believe it or not, salespeople have the power to negotiate. You probably won't get 50 percent off the price of a brand new iPad, but you can haggle and save yourself some money.

The logic is simple: Stores would rather get something for that merchandise than just let it collect dust.
