New On DVD: 'Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience'

Brother Trio Works Hard To Please Fans In Concert Film

UPDATED: 5:51 pm CDT July 14, 2009

'Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience' (G): The Disney Channel trio pushes it to the limit for "The Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience," the DVD and Blu-ray disc release of the film that played IMAX theaters earlier this year.

And while the music clearly met the expectations of the fans in the concert film, the box office returns showed there was considerably less interest than their tween counterpart Miley Cyrus. But with some nifty 3-D glasses, a crisp and colorful visual presentation on Blu-ray, and a downloadable digital copy of the film, the film should find a comfortable niche in the home video market.

The concert movie starts out with some backstage antics by the Brothers, who in an arrogant or just plain misinformed move, are watching The Beatles on a monitor (sorry fellas, if you're suggesting a comparison to the Fab Four, you're more like The Monkees -- not that there is anything wrong with The Monkees). Out front, screaming, uncontrollable fans await, some of which are being entertained by Jonas Brothers (Nick, Joe and Kevin) look-a-likes. Interspersed throughout is personal footage of the band, as well and snippets of meet-and-greets with fans.

The concert scenes are well produced, and the neon-like glow sticks (which have replaced lighters from the good old days in 1970s and 1980s concert halls) pop out during the film's dazzling, 3-D presentation. You have to be a diehard fan of the group to truly enjoy the music; but for parents who have to tolerate the screaming in the film (as well from the tweens in their living room), the music consists of good, clean pop (it sounds great in both DVD and Blu-ray versions) that earns the group some high marks for having class.

The concert also includes appearances by country star and former Joe Jonas flame Taylor Swift, as well as the brothers' "Camp Rock" co-star Demi Lovato. The Blu-ray edition of the release includes two bonus songs and an extended 2-D version of the film. (Walt Disney Home Entertainment)
