<!--Sacramento Only-->Travel Deals: Europe, Hotel Deals, Paris Contest
Ok, folks, what would you pay for a trip from New York or Boston to London, plus three days with a rental car (stick shift)? $1500? $1000?
What, are you crazy? That's way too much. But hey, if that's what you'd pay, tell you what, I can work as the middleman in getting you a ticket ?
Oh, I can't con you. You're just too sweet. The truth is that you can get a deal like what I just described for $248. Of course, you have to find a way to get to New York, but even with that cost factored in, that's an impressive deal.
But maybe you don't want to go to London. There are no end of other options, including Boston to Paris for $328, Baltimore to Frankfurt for $318, Orlando to Paris for $368, Minneapolis to London, Paris, Frankfurt, or Amsterdam for $376.
Again, you'll have to find a way to get to all these departure points, but there's gotta be something in there you can use. You must book by October 14 and travel by December 14. Check autoeurope.com or, if the site isn't up to speed, call 800/223-5555.
This one comes courtesy Rudy Maxa, aka the Savvy Traveler, aka the Splendid Splinter, aka The Grand Minister of Funk, aka The Man With Many Nicknames.
As Rudy, aka the Grand Minister, points out, airlines have long been filling their last-minute vacancies through the magic of the Internet. But hotels have been a bit behind the curve, until now.
Two sites in particular are gaining fame, at least among Rudy and his immediate circle of friends, for getting those cheap, last-minute rates straight to YOU. They are Roomsaver.com and Laterooms.com.
But a caveat: Again, according to Rudy, these sites have a ways to go before they become as useful as your favorite cheap-airfare sites. Roomsaver.com can get you much cheaper rates than you can get over the phone, but you can't reserve rooms. They're based on availability when you arrive.
And Laterooms.com just doesn't have the wherewithal quite yet. It offers 75 percent off on rooms in 3500 properties in 43 countries, but only has one property in New York, according to The Man. Still, they're both work a look, and they're only going to get better. Watch them closely.
