REM Guitarist Air-Rage Trial Called Off
Judge Gives No Reason For Mistrial
POSTED: 2:53 p.m. EST November 14, 2001
A surprise development has taken place in the air-rage trial of REM guitarist Peter Buck: It's been called off -- for now.
The judge sent the jury home in the second day of the trial, and said cryptically that something had come up. He couldn't say more.
There will now be a retrial. No date has been set.
The surprise came one day after the prosecutor said that Buck had gone on a drunken rampage on a flight after drinking 15 glasses of wine.
Buck is charged with allegedly assaulting a cabin crew of a British Airways flight. The plane was on the way from Seattle to London. He's also charged with damaging property.
