GAINSVILLE, Fla. -- Almost half of infertility cases are due to scarring, adhesions and blocked fallopian tubes.
An estimated two million women are unable to get pregnant because of these complications. Many women spend thousands of dollars trying to get pregnant and still do not successfully conceive.
Researchers from Clear Passage Therapies in Gainesville, Fla. accidentally came across an alternative treatment for female infertility. While massaging an infertile woman for low back and pelvic pain, physical therapists discovered their patients had become pregnant after seven years of sterility.
Intrigued, massage therapists tried the same technique on eight other infertile women. Half of them became pregnant following the massage treatment.
To date, among 20 infertile women massaged at Clear Passage, 14 have become pregnant. The treatment, called the "Wurn Technique," was named after Larry and Belinda Wurn who developed the site-specific massage and has been patented.
The treatment seems to help women who have adhesions in their reproductive tract. Adhesions act like glue, disrupting the function of the affected organ. The treatment involves gentle, specific stretching to loosen tightened areas of soft tissue.
This is done until the tension releases.
The goal is to decrease adhesions in and around the organs, ligaments, muscles, joints, and support structures of the pelvis, abdomen, hips and low back.
Larry Wurn, L.M.T., said that most women become pregnant after the 20 to 23 treatment sessions. He said it depends on how often
patients are treated. The cost is $150 per session.
Infertility and adhesions often relate to one or more of the items listed below. If a patient's history includes any of these, she could be a candidate for this therapy.
