Redecorating? Try Feng Shui
According to Feng Shui, the bedroom is one of the most important places in the home. There should not be a computer, a treadmill or TV -- anything to distract you from the primary purposes of the room -- rest and romance. |
Katie Weber is not a decorator, but she said she can help decorate your home. She is a Feng Shui consultant. Weber uses a compass to to figure out what parts of your home align with parts of your life.
"The points of the compass point to different areas of your life such as health, wealth or business," she said.
Weber said understanding how to arrange these spaces can make your life harmonious.
Feng Shui literally means wind and water, according to the American Feng Shui Institute. It is an ancient Chinese study of the natural environment. It is a scientific discipline based on the analysis of energy. Feng Shui can determine the best or most favorable location for anyone and assist that person to avoid their worst or least desirable location in any environment. This environment can be at the office, home, or any place in which they spend time. Determinations are based on the year the individual is born, the environment surrounding them, and the movements of the solar system. Throughout ancient China, classical Feng Shui was a closely guarded discipline used as a tool to ensure the good health, wealth, and power of the imperial dynasties, according to the institute. The keepers of this secret knowledge were the Feng Shui masters, the highly respected scientists and astronomers who were charged with sustaining the good fortune and prosperity of the royal court. Today, Feng Shui consultants abound across the country. Schools teach the theories and geometry behind the ancient study.Weber helped John Hicks and his wife decorate their new home in Fuquay-Varina, N.C. She says bathrooms in the center of the house are a drain on finances, so she convinced the Hicks to paint theirs red.
"It also adds more of the fire element, which will increase income," Weber said.
"As soon as I painted it, the next day, my wife made two sales in one day and she hardly ever does that, so we were very excited about the bedroom," Hicks said. "Whatever makes you feel better about yourself is the big thing."

"I really believe in Feng Shui that it does help you feel better about your living areas," Hicks said.
In addition to consultants, there are a lot of books about Feng Shui that can give you ideas about how to arrange your home. There is even a Feng Shui book for dogs.Copyright 2002 by Lifewhile.com. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
