'The Hulk' Begins Filming

Movie Slated For Summer 2003 Release

Just as comic book superhero "Spider-Man" readies its one-month countdown to its debut on the big screen, another has started filming.

'The Hulk' preview posterAccording to Sci-Fi online, Universal Pictures has stared shooting "The Hulk," the big-screen adaptation of Marvel Comics' character "The Incredible Hulk."

The film is being directed by "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" Oscar-winner Ang Lee, and stars Australian actor Eric Bana ("Black Hawk Down") as the muscular, green-skinned title character, and his alter ego, scientist David Banner.

"The Incredible Hulk" had a successful television run from 1978-82, and starred Bill Bixby as Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk.

Co-starring in the big screen version of 'The Hulk' is "A Beautiful Mind" Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly. Connelly will play Betty, the daughter of General Ross (Nick Nolte), who is in charge of a military base that oversees scientific developments.

According to Universal Studios, the visual effects will be produced for the film by George Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic.

The film is set for a summer 2003 release. Its big-screen comic book counterpart "Spider-Man," directed by Sam Raimi, hits theaters May 3.
