Gore Addresses AARP Convention
Vice President Spoke About Social Security
|
Gore told convention-goers about his plans for Social Security.
Gore said that he would like to pay down the national debt with the national surplus and then direct some of that money to more aggressive investments to expand the Social Security trust fund.
Gore attacked the plan of his opponent George W. Bush. Bush's plan would allow Americans to privately invest some of their Social Security savings in the stock market.
"You shouldn't be asked to play stock market roulette with your retirement savings in the social security program," Gore said.
While Gore was addressing convention delegates, supporters of George W. Bush were holding a news conference accusing him of spreading lies about Bush and flip-flopping on Social Security.
The AARP does not endorse candidates, but its president said that Gore's plan seems more reasonable. George W. Bush had a scheduling conflict and could not attend the convention.
