Mystery Cam: Rockin' In The Free World
Hey! Don't say that, I'll be better this time, I swear! (Editor's Note: All right, fine, Edd. Go ahead.) Thanks, Editor, I'll make you proud, I promise! Here's the latest one, folks, click on the image for a larger view.
Last Week:
Anyway, as I was saying: my loyal lil' buddy, Chris E. Keedei, took over last week's Webcam, and the little pip did a bang-up job. (Thanks, boss -- Chris.) You're welcome, squirt! It was a lover-ly picture, and it gave a little challenge to many, since it was just, basically, a picture of a gorgeous beach. Not to downplay the miraculous nature of a gorgeous beach, but there are billions of them out there.
So it wasn't an easy one. However, it was for Dick Durand, Elaine J. "The Killer" Kelley and Wade, who got the right answer -- Chaweng Bay, Thailand -- pretty quickly. But many others wanted it to be Diamond Head, Oahu, Hawaii, which looks very similar.
And many others guessed Vietnam, probably because of the reference to "a My, a La, and a Cam": i.e., Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia, all of which border Thailand. See, both Laos and Cambodia also border Vietnam, but Myanmar (aka Burma) does not.
The other clues involved knowing that Thailand translates, sort of, to "land of the free," and catching the reference to "et cetera, et cetera, et cetera," which is the pet phrase of "The King and I's" King Mongkut of Siam (later, Thailand).
Clues:
This one shouldn't be too tough -- this is no Sisyphian feat, if you catch my drift (wink, wink, nudge nudge). Frankly, this city rocks, and if I were bolder I'd ask you to drink to that.
