Millionaire Returns To Comedy, Seeks Love
Rick Rockwell Makes Appearance At Comedy Store
He's also ready to revive his comedy career.
Rockwell, who was billed by producers of the Valentine's Day special "Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?" as a real estate investor and motivational speaker, was a regular on the Los Angeles comedy club circuit from the mid-'80s to the mid-90s.
According to a press released issued by Rockwell, 42, the millionaire made an appearance at Hollywood's Comedy Store and Hollywood Improv Sunday night.
He said he plans to "continue to utilize his gift of humor to raise money for charities and make the world a better place -- one joke at a time."
Rockwell and estranged bride Darva Conger, 34, have been staples on the talk show circuit since it was revealed that an ex-girlfriend issued a retraining order against Rockwell in 1991.
Conger has since said she wants the marriage annulled and called her participation in the wedding contest "an error in judgment."
But Rockwell doesn't regret his televised nuptials.
"The producers of 'Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?' selected me for the right reasons -- the desire to create romantic magic and find a soulmate," he said in his press release. "I was ready to get married and was committed to making the marriage work, and the world now sees the pure intention in my heart regarding this marriage.
"I am greatly saddened by the unexpected turn of events, but life does go on. And, as with all the speed bumps in my life, healing through laughter works best for me."
Conger was among 50 women who "competed" to marry a multi-millionaire whom they had never met. After viewing the women in bathing suits and wedding gowns and listening to their answers to questions posed by his friends and family, Rockwell proposed to Conger and the two were immediately married.
Revelations about Rockwell's past and the resulting negative publicity prompted Fox to canceled all future plans for similar marriage shows.
