Simple Changes May Help You Lose Weight
Brown-Bag Lunches, Turning Off TV Found Effective

If the thought of shedding a few pounds without a lot of effort sounds appealing, new research suggests you can tip the scales in your favor by making a few simple changes in your routine.
It might not be a big surprise that bringing your lunch to work is a skinnier solution than eating out every day. But how much lighter is a brown bag meal when compared to restaurant or takeout meals?
According to a new study, you can save an easy 400 calories every time you brown bag it.
Researchers credit the super-sized portions served in restaurants and in takeout meals, along with the high-fat, high-calorie content of those meals, as the source of the extra calories.
A waist-whittling bag lunch, which includes a fiber-rich sandwich made with lean meat, veggies, yogurt and fruit can easily cut the calories.
The end result: brown bagging it could help you lose more than 20 pounds a year.
If your mealtime companion is the television, a book or the newspaper, a new study suggests you may want to change your habits.
Researchers had a group of women eat meals alone, alone listening to a book on tape, and alone watching television.
The study found that women who listened to a book on tape or watched television consumed an average of 70 more calories per meal than those who ate the meal "alone."
According to researchers, when you are focused on something other than your meal, you are less aware of what you are eating. That means you are more likely to miss your body's signal that you are full.
So turn off the television and put down the newspaper when eating. Saving 70 calories for two meals a day can add up to a 15 pound weight loss per year.
