How green are you?

A computer game claims that it can tell you how environmentally friendly your lifestyle is. Eighth-graders at King Science and Technology Magnet School agreed to test it out.

It was created by American Public Media and is called Consumer Consequences. It is designed to tell the player the impact their lifestyle has on the Earth.

It asks questions such as: How many renewable resources do you use? What percentage of products do you recycle? How do you travel -- coach or first-class?

Based on the user's answers, the game shows how many of Earth's natural resources it would take if all 6.6 billion people on the planet lived like him or her.

Kaitlin Beck said her family scores well because they recycle and are interested in conservation.

"It makes you be more socially aware, so that you know what it would do to actually help the Earth," Kaitlin said.

Some of the students played the game before, and their scores prompted them to do things differently.

"I think it was extremely useful for our students, because most middle-school kids don't realize the impact they have in life, let alone the impact they have on the Earth," said teacher Kristine Denton.

The teachers said they are hoping the students share their results with their parents, because it really needs to be a family effort.
