Vegas Q&A: Which Hotels Accept Pets?
Question: Do any of the big-name hotels allow pets? If not, which is your favorite that does? I'll be traveling this summer with my sweet chocolate lab, and I don't want to kennel her but don't want to miss out on my first Vegas experience either.
Cadence in Boston
Answer: Hi, Cadence, and hello to your doggie friend as well.
The only major hotel that I know of in Vegas that accepts pets is the Four Seasons. They'll even have gourmet doggie food and personalized pet bowls made up if you request it. Of course, that kind of treatment doesn't come cheap; the Four Seasons is one of the most expensive hotels in Vegas, averaging well over $200 per night.
Some of the smaller, non-casino hotels do accept pets. For instance, the La Quinta Inn on Paradise Road -- a very nice family-style motel -- does accept pets for an additional fee and a deposit. Some other options include many of the Residence Inn and Motel 6 locations around town. Of course, these are not right on the Strip and the quality of the smaller places varies wildly.
Beside the fact that you'll have a hard time finding a decent place in a good location, I don't think Vegas is the best place for pets. You can't take them with you into casinos, shows, attractions, or restaurants, and if you're going this summer neither you nor your dog is going to want to spend a lot of time outside, due to the extreme heat. That would mean that Fido or Fifi is going to wind up cooped up in the room while you're off having a good time.
A dog-sitter or a kennel sounds like a much better option to me, but if you're set on bringing your pet with you, I recommend you call the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority at (877) VISIT-LV. They can provide you with a full list of lodgings that accept four-legged guests.
Good luck.
