Chat With Carmen Electra, See The Cure
Also Friday-Sunday: The Farrelly Brothers, Dr. Dre, Michael Palin, 'N Sync
Carmen Electra is one of a kind: She's the only person that I can think of named "Carmen Electra." Otherwise, she's pretty standard: a busty lust object best known for scandalous marriages, "Baywatch" stardom and revealing bit roles in films. For Carmen, one of those films is "Scary Movie," the Wayans spoof on the recent teen horror craze. Chat with the Human Body on comedycentral.com at 7:30 p.m. EST, 6:30 p.m. CST, 4:30 p.m. PST.
It's decided: The Farrelly Brothers are awesome. They might have made my the man list if "Me Myself and Irene" had been a little better. They started the gross-out comedy craze with the stellar "There's Something About Mary," which also proved to be one of the sweeter movies of the year, and their "Dumb and Dumber" is one of the funnier movies in recent memory. Chat with Peter and Bobby today on msnbc.com at 12 noon EST, 11 a.m. CST, 9 a.m. PST, but submit questions any ol' time.
"Yo, Dre! Kick in the bass!" That's what I'm going to say to Dr. Dre when I become, like, real famous and go to parties and stuff, and he's there, and he's like, "Hey, I heard you were, like real famous," and then I say that. Heh. Dr. Dre is one of the most important figures in hip-hop history, perfecting a SoCal sound that was new, exciting, and truly distinct and divergent from the original New York rap template. He'll be chatting on chat.msn.com at 9 p.m. EST, 8 p.m. CST, 7 p.m. PST.
Like any good nerd, I love Monty Python. Perhaps the most enduringly charming of the bunch is Michael Palin, who spent most of his Python time inhabiting lesser-known characters, but has had a subsequent career that proves he's a genuinely nice, funny chap. You've seen him as K-K-K-K-Ken in "A Fish Called Wanda," but he's also done a breezy, fun PBS travel series called "Pole to Pole" and know a world tour around Ernest Hemingway's old haunts, in an effort to get into the mind of the old man's man, Chat with him about his experiences on bn.com at 1 p.m. EST, 12 noon CST, 10 a.m. PST.
The Backstreet Boys are old hat. Ricky Martin's yesterday's news. 'N Sync -- conk shew, conk shew. The latest fresh-faced pop sensation, the sweet young kids with the cheery harmonies who make the teenyboppers scream is the hip, hot newcomers The Cure! Really! I'm not lying! They're cute, they're handsome, they're good-looking, and they've got that fresh hip-hop 'tude! Word! They're straight from tha streets, with an emphasis on "tha"! Really! Well, no, not really. I never could lie to you. Robert Smith (pictured) is the frontman for the mope-rock kings the Cure. You can see a Webcast of the Cure's latest concert on hob.com at 9 p.m. EST, 8 p.m. CST, 6 p.m. PST. You'll have to pay a nominal fee.
Celebs Online Saturday and Sunday
The teenybop superstars of 'N Sync are a sensation, crooning their prepubescent-lookin' heads off for young swoon queens across our great nation. Their latest offering is "No Strings Attached," and you're guaranteed to get a big scream from your youngster if you come home with a copy in your hand. They're so big, in fact, that a video of a live press conference made it onto this thing. See them talk to reporters this Saturday on ARTISTdirect.com at 1:30 p.m. EST, 12:30 p.m. CST, and 10:30 a.m. PST.
Like electronica? Well, it's the future, ladies and gents; any act not using computerized sounds of some sort are covering old ground at this point (not that there's anything wrong with that). Two of the top players in the scene, Groove Armada and Roni Size, are coming together for a show. You may know Groove Armada from the single "I See You Baby" or the album "Vertigo." See the show this Saturday on rollingstone.comrollingstone.com at 8 p.m. EST, 7 p.m. CST, 5 p.m. PST.
One thing I've learned is that there's always a fest of some sort going on. People love to fest. This weekend it's Summerfest, which includes Roger McGuinn (formerly of the Byrds), Guster, U.P.O., and Ozomatli on Saturday and Edgar Winter, Bad Religion and Goldfinger on Sunday. For both days, you can see a Webcast of the goings-on through hob.com. On Saturday it begins at 4:30 p.m. EST, 3:30 p.m. CST, 1:30 p.m. PST and on Sunday it begins at 5 p.m. EST, 4 p.m. CST, 2 p.m. PST.
