Why go? The Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a number of animals from both native and non-native species. From April to October, the sanctuary is open from Thursday to Sunday. During the spring and fall months the sanctuary is open only on Saturdays and Sundays.

Why go? The trails and campsites in Emerald Bay State Park offer unparalleled views of the lake and of the surrounding mountains. Accessible only by foot or by boat is the small fortress of Vikingsholm (modeled on ancient Scandinavian architecture), which was built in the 1920s by a wealthy Chicago widow. Trails also offer views of Fannette Island.
