Most movie fans know her as Angelina Jolie. But now that's the actress' legal name.
That's because until recently, she was known as Angelina Jolie Voight. The daughter of Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, Jolie was her middle name at birth.
According to The Associated Press, a Los Angeles County Court judge granted Sept. 12 a petition filed by the actress to drop her last name. The request was filed at the Santa Monica, Calif., courthouse July 3.
Jolie, 27, and Voight, 63, have been publicly feuding since August. In an interview with the syndicated television show "Access Hollywood," Voight blamed himself for the marital trouble between his daughter and Billy Bob Thornton -- and acknowledged that when Jolie was a baby, he had an affair, and subsequently left his wife and family.
In an interview with Internet Broadcasting Systems entertainment reporter Tim Lammers in 1999, Jolie, not surprisingly, credited her success to her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, and brother James Haven, who's birth name is also Voight.
"My parents separated when I was 6 months old, so I was raised by my mom," she said. "My mom and brother are the closest people to me and have helped me with everything -- they drove me to all my auditions -- They are actually my backbone."
Voight played Jolie's father, Lord Richard Croft, in the 2001 action movie, "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider."
He told "Access Hollywood" that they had a "wonderful time" making the movie, but since weren't speaking. He also said that Jolie had "serious mental problems" and that she needs "help."
In a response to Voight's claims, Jolie said in a statement, "I don't want to make public the reasons for my bad relationship with my father. After all these years, I have determined that it is not healthy for me to be around my father, especially now that I am responsible for my own child."
Jolie also filed for divorce from Thornton in early July after less than two years of marriage. She also petitioned to change the name of her adopted Cambodian infant son from Rath Vibol -- his birth name -- to Maddox Chivan Thornton Jolie.
Jolie won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for 1999's "Girl, Interrupted." Her other works include the feature films "The Bone Collector" and "Gone in Sixty Seconds," and the telefilm "Gia."
