Report: Melanie Griffith In Drug Rehab

Seeking Treatment For Prescription Addiction

Melanie Griffith has reportedly entered a recovery program in Marina del Rey to treat an addiction to prescription drugs.

"My doctor has referred me to the Daniel Freeman Hospital to step down from the prescribed medication that I have been taking for a neck injury," Griffith wrote in a statement to the syndicated television program "Access Hollywood." "I appreciate everyone's concern and I am sure that you will respect my and my family's privacy."

Melanie GriffithGriffith and her spokesperson aren't giving any details about the neck injury, the type of medication or how long she had been using it. By law, hospital administrators are not allowed to issue any statements about patients.

There's no word yet on how long the actress will remain in the rehabilitation program, but she said that by checking in she hopes she can be an example to others who are afraid to go into treatment.

"I appreciate so much everyone's concern, and I want you to know my family and I consider this to be a positive move," Griffith said, according to CBS 2 News.

Griffith, who is married to actor Antonio Banderas, also entered a rehab center in 1988, after coming to terms with her addiction to drugs and alcohol while making "Working Girl," for which she earned an Academy Award nomination.
