Chat With Cher, See Fatboy Slim

Also Wednesday-Sunday: 'That '70s Show' Star, They Might Be Giants, Billy Ray Cyrus

CherDo you believe in life after love? Something inside me says I really don't think you're strong enough. Well, anyway, now that we've settled that, let's talk Cher. In my opinion, the mark of a true star is that he or she can be easily and often ridiculed for decades and still remain amazingly popular and successful. Cher is impervious to that fickle monster called coolness, and now she's got a new album, "Not.Com.Mercial," which promises Cherness galore. Chat with her this Friday on bbc.co.uk at 3 p.m. EST, 2 p.m. CST, 1 p.m. MST, 12 noon PST.

They Might Be Giants gained a cult following among geeky college types with their goofball ditties about Istanbul, Particle Man, etc. Last I heard, one of the two who might be giants, John Linnell, had struck out on his own, but I suppose that didn't take. He and John Flansburgh will be performing this Wednesday on rollingstone.com at 8 p.m. EST, 7 p.m. CST, 6 p.m. MST, 5 p.m. PST.

Venezuelan Wilmer Valderrama plays the oddball foreign exchange student Fez (from F.E.S., short for Foreign Exchange Student) on Fox's "That '70s Show," which, despite its still-lame title, (I will not be moved on this) is quite a good show. His previous acting credits include ? absolutely nothing, actually, which is pretty typical of this show. He's chatting this Friday on talkcity.com at 7 p.m. EST, 6 p.m. CST, 5 p.m. MST, 4 p.m. PST.

Remember back to the early '90s? Despite the fact that Vanilla Ice was ruling the airwaves, there was still joy in the world, and a majority of it came from the experience of coming together as a nation and sharing the true nature of our achy-breaky hearts with one another. We have Billy Ray Cyrus, that Herculean walking mullet, to thank for this anthem of achy-breaky-heartedness. Billy Ray will be performing this Sunday, and it will be broadcast on hob.com at 3 p.m. EST, 2 p.m. CST, 1 p.m. MST, 12 noon PST.

Fatboy_SlimI was witness to one of the most beautiful events ever on the MTV Music Video Awards a while back. Up for the award of best video was the usual assortment of million-dollar packages of random, rapid, meaningless imagery, all so desperately trying to stand out and be different that they all seemed the same. And then there was Fatboy Slim's video, in which he took a camcorder and filmed an uncoordinated community dance troupe gettin' funky. Must have cost about five bucks. Fatboy won, and when the camera panned the audience members, all the nudniks who had blown millions on a lot of sound and fury looked annoyed as hell. Ha, ha. Fatboy will bring his brilliance to a live Webcast Saturday on i-gig.com at 8 p.m. EST, 7 p.m. CST, 6 p.m. MST, 5 p.m. PST.
