Ritz-Carlton To Offer Opulence, Golf By Lake Las Vegas

Luxury Chain Makes First Move Into Nevada

UPDATED: 8:47 a.m. EST February 10, 2003

The Ritz-Carlton at Lake Las Vegas is scheduled to open this week, bringing the upscale chain to Nevada for the first time. The $170 million project is the second high-end hotel to open in the master-planned community located about 20 miles east of the Strip.

The new Ritz-Carlton will feature more than 400 rooms and suites, ranging from 486 to more than 2,400 square feet. Each room will offer fine linens, oversized marble bathrooms with separate tubs and showers, and more finery. Some rooms also come with private balconies.

Even more upscale are the club-level rooms located on the bridge across the lake itself. The wing in which these accommodations are located is accessible by private key only and features a private lounge and five-times daily food and beverage presentations.

A 30,000-square-foot world-class spa will offer 24 treatment rooms and all of the pampering that you can imagine, including sauna, steam, massages, facials, beauty salon, fitness center, and much more.

The adjacent Falls Golf Club, designed by Tom Weiskopf, is available to guests of the Ritz-Carlton. It features 18 holes in two courses -- a traditional desert setting with canyons and arroyos, and a back nine with views of the entire Las Vegas valley. The Jack Nicklaus-designed Reflection Bay Club offers another 18-holes for Ritz-Carlton guests.

The 40,000-square-foot Montelago Casino will open right next to the Ritz, although it will be independently operated. It is set to feature slots, video poker, and all manner of table games, with a variety of limits.

Also on the menu for the Ritz are two fine-dining restaurants, a couple of bars and lounges, a heated outdoor pool, gardens, wedding services, meeting space, beach and lake sporting activities, and more.

Of course you're going to have to pay for all of this opulence. Expect room rates to vary between expensive and "Pardon me while I sell a kidney" expensive. Figure $250 a night and up during the week, and $300 and up per night on the weekend.

I'll bring you a full review of the property once I get a chance to visit it.
