Britney Spears' coming-of-age flick "Crossroads" has hit a dead-end street.

Britney Spears in 'Crossroads'The comedy-drama had a leading eight nominations for the 23rd annual Golden Raspberry Awards -- also known as the "Razzies" -- including Worst Actress, Worst Screen Couple and Worst Picture.

Announced Monday on the organization's Web site, the Razzies annually dishonors the worst achievements in film. The organization deliberately one-ups the Academy Awards each year by announcing its nominees the day before Oscar nominations, and winners the day before the Oscar ceremony.

Going up against "Crossroads" in the Worst Picture category are Eddie Murphy's comedy disaster "The Adventures of Pluto Nash," the critically-maligned "Star Wars" prequel, "Episode II -- Attack of the Clones," Robert Benigni's wooden family comedy "Pinnochio" and the Madonna movie bomb "Swept Away."

Like Spears, Madonna grabbed a Worst Actress nomination for "Swept Away." Taking on the singers on for the dishonor are Winona Ryder for "Mr. Deeds," Angelina Jolie for "Life or Something Like It" and Jennifer Lopez for "Enough" and "Maid in Manhattan."

Madonna's "Swept Away" co-star Adriano Giannini was nominated for Worst Actor, as was Murphy for "The Adventures of Pluto Nash," Steven Segal for "Half Past Dead" and Adam Sandler for "Adam Sandler's 8 Crazy Nights" and "Mr. Deeds."

Begnini was also nominated for Worst Actor with a special notation. The announcement noted that the role was "dubbed 'Godzilla'-style by Breckin Meyer."

Madonna and Giannini in 'Swept Away'Both "Swept Away" and "Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones" were second to "Crossroads" in the nominations with seven a piece. The films' directors, Guy Ritchie and George Lucas, respectively, each earned a Worst Director nomination, as did Begnini for "Pinocchio," Tamra Davis for "Crossroads" and Ron Underwood for "The Adventures of Pluto Nash."

Actors dishonored in the supporting category this year were Hayden Christensen for "Star Wars: Episode II," Tom Green for "Stealing Harvard," Freddie Prinze Jr. for "Scooby Doo," Christopher Walken for "The Country Bears" and Robin Williams for "Death to Smoochy."

Worst supporting nominees were Lara Flynn Boyle for "Men in Black II," Bo Derek for "Master of Disguise," Madonna for "Die Another Day," Natalie Portman for "Star Wars: Episode Who Cares?, as the Razzie Foundation listed it, and Rebecca Romjin-Stamos for "Rollerball."

Spears' "Crossroads" co-star Anson Mount took a shot in the Worst Screen Couple category. The nomination simply listed Spears and "whatever-his-name-was." Other Worst Couple nominees included Begnini and wife, Nicoletta Braschi, for "Pinocchio," Christensen and Portman for "Star Wars: Episode II," Giannini and Madonna for "Swept Away," and Eddie Murphy and either Robert De Niro ("Showtime") or Owen Wilson ("I Spy") or himself cloned ("The Adventures of Pluto Nash").

The nominations for the Worst Sequel or Remake Razzie were "I Spy," "Mr. Deeds," "Pinocchio," "Star Wars: Episode II" and "Swept Away." Up for the Worst Screenplay Razzie are "The Adventures of Pluto Nash," "Crossroads," "Pinocchio," "Swept Away" and "Star Wars: Episode II."

Madonna took one final hit in the Worst Original Song category, with a Razzie nod for "Die Another Day" from "Die Another Day." The other nominees were "I'm a Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" and "Overprotected," both from "Crossroads."

New to the Razzies this year was another film dishonor -- the Most Flatulent Teen-Target Movie. Those nominations went to "Adam Sandler's 8 Crazy Nights," "Crossroads," "Jackass: The Movie," "Scooby Doo" and "XXX."

The Razzie awards will be announced during its "ultra-low-budget ceremonies" at the Four-Points Sheraton Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif., March 22.
