Fresh on the heels of the surprise box office blockbuster "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," the sitcom "My Big Fat Greek Life" debuted with big ratings Monday.

"Greek Life" not only won its 9:30 p.m. EST time slot, its estimated audience of 22.7 million viewers made it the most watched premiere of any network comedy in four years, according to CBS.

Based on movie written by star Nia Vardalos, "My Big Fat Greek Life" features most of original cast, including Lainie Kazan, Michael Constantine, Louis Mandylor, Andrea Martin and Gia Carides.

John Corbett, who played Vardalos' non-Greek suitor in the film, had previously committed to a different television series before the idea of "Greek Life" was conceived.

Corbett has been replaced by Steven Eckholdt. The show picks up when the couple gets back from their honeymoon.

Shot for just under $5 million, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" went on to gross over $240 million at the North American box office. The film also earned Vardalos a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination earlier this month.
