'Gladiator,' 'Traffic' Lead Golden Globes
Awards To Be Handed Out Next Month
Best actor nods for those appearing in a motion picture in the dramatic category went to Javier Bardem for "Before Night Falls," Russell Crowe for "Gladiator," Michael Douglas for "Wonder Boys," Tom Hanks for "Cast Away," and Geoffrey Rush for "Quills."
Best dramatic motion picture actress nominations went to Joan Allen for "The Contender," Bjork for "Dancer in the Dark," Ellen Burstyn for "Requiem For a Dream," Laura Linney for "You Can Count On Me," and Julia Roberts for "Erin Brockovich."
Best motion picture-musical or comedy nominations were "Almost Famous,"
"Best In Show," "Chicken Run," "Chocolat," and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
Nominees for best television drama were "CSI," "ER," "The Practice," "The Sopranos," and "The West Wing."
Lara Flynn Boyle, Kelsey Grammer and Christine Lahti announced nominees in a total of 24 categories, including 13 for motion pictures and 11 for television, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel before dawn Thursday morning.
The 58th annual Golden Globe awards show, sponsored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be telecast live on NBC Jan. 21.
