High-Tech Travel Gear

Planning A Family Vacation?

Make the most of your trip, say the Good Housekeeping Institute experts, and bring along a digital camera, camcorder and portable DVD player. To help you shop for such getaway gear, our engineers tested several new products. Their top travel picks:

Olympus Stylus 300 digital camera ($449). Although this camera costs about $150 more than some other models tested, our engineers say the optical and digital zoom features are worth it. The Olympus also scored high marks for clear picture quality and compact size.

Sony DCR-TRV 350 digital camcorder ($500). This dual-format camcorder (it can play both Hi-8 and 8mm tapes) will keep your vacation memories alive. Our engineers liked the medium-size LCD and sharp-looking picture.

Audiovox D1730 portable DVD player ($399). To make long road trips with your family more enjoyable (and quiet!), plug this DVD player into your car's 12-volt power source. Testers loved the clear sound and picture.
