"The Chocolate Factory" may be getting a makeover.

Tim Burton on the set of 'Planet of the Apes'According to Variety, director Tim Burton is in negotiation to direct a remake of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."

Author Roald Dahl's estate is counting on Burton doing a better job than the first version of "Willie Wonka" starring Gene Wilder, since Dahl reportedly hated that version.

This isn't the first remake of a film for Burton. The director previously helmed a re-imagining of "Planet of the Apes" in 2001.

Burton's also directed such films as "Edward Scissorhands," "Mars Attacks!," "Sleepy Hollow" and the first two "Batman" movies.

Before he takes on the "Willy Wonka" remake, though, he is going to film the stop-motion animated movie "The Corpse Bride," according to Variety. Burton previously produced the stop-motion animated musical "The Nightmare Before Christmas."

His next film, the drama "Big Fish," is due in theaters later this year.
