OKLAHOMA CITY -- The United States Geological Survey reported that a 4.4 magnitude earthquake hit central Oklahoma on Saturday. The USGS said it hit about 4:22 p.m. and centered about six miles south of Davenport. The quake is the latest in a long series of quakes to hit the region in the past few months. None of the quakes has been considered significant and none has caused significant damage or injuries.Seismologists have been trying to figure out what is responsible for the sudden burst of seismic activity in the area. They said they didn't think the geological makeup of the region made it possible for a catastrophic earthquake to hit the area. The earthquake came just hours after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake hit just off the coast of Chile. That quake was one of the strongest ever recorded.
