Parents are left grieving and a school in mourning after a pair of teen siblings were killed in a weekend crash just blocks from their home in Milford, Hartford TV station WFSB reported.

Paul John, 19, and Alexa, 15, Heron were killed when the car they were traveling in struck a utility pole at about 3:20 p.m. Sunday, police said.

PJ Heron was driving the Honda Civic to their home when the car spun out of control and crashed into a utility pole, police said. PJ Heron died at the scene and his sister died at the hospital, police said.

"To lose two kids to something like this -- that's devastating for the family," parent Eva Zaniewska said. "I can't even comprehend."

Alexa was a sophomore at Foran High School, where PJ Heron graduated from in 2008. School officials said grief counselors would be made available at the school on Monday and that students were notified about the deaths Sunday night.

"PJ was a quiet and nice young man who has been taken from us far too early," Foran Principal John Barile and Assistant Superintendent Michael Cummings said in a joint statement. " Alexa was a friend to many with a bright smile and was an extremely pleasant student to work with. We are devastated by this loss and are working with our students and our families in the community during this extremely difficult time."

"He was really nice. He was always funny and he was always there for Alexa," said PJ Heron's friend, Ariana Simeone.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
