Police searched Thursday for a group of teenagers they said beat up and robbed a disabled man, taking $1 from his wallet as he waited for a bus in Seattle.

The incident took place at a bus shelter on Rainier Avenue South and South Henderson Street in Seattle at about 8 p.m. Friday, Seattle TV station KIRO reported.

The disabled man, who cannot speak, was waiting for the bus when a group of three boys shoved him against the back of the bus shelter, slammed his head against the wall and punched his face and chest repeatedly until he slumped over onto a bench, according to police reports.

They then opened his wallet and took $1, police said.

Witnesses said the group fled westbound, yelling, "That's how we do it on the south end."

Tyron Long uses the bus stop every night after work. He said he's seen teens trying to kick up trouble.

Because the victim is disabled and unable to speak, he couldn't tell medics and investigators if he was hurt, but was able to give them the thumbs up sign, police said.

The man was taken home.

Investigators think the culprits are likely members of a gang.
