As morbid as it seems, one of the songs on terminally ill rocker Warren Zevon's album is "Knockin' on Heaven's Door."

Warren ZevonSinger-songwriter Tommy Shaw of Styx writes on the band's Web site that he was helping Zevon (pictured, right) with his album "The Wind." He says Zevon told him his record label suggested he record the song and he asked Shaw's opinion.

Shaw says he told Zevon that the song -- originally written and recorded by Bob Dylan -- would be "a powerful song to do."

According to Shaw, he and Zevon cut the song live in one night, and after it was finished, "spent the rest of the evening emotionally wrung out by how powerful and poignant it was."

Zevon, 56, announced that he was dying of terminal lung cancer last September.

Several other rock luminaries will appear on the album, including Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles' Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt, Tom Petty, and Jackson Browne, according to Zevon's record label.

Zevon is best known for his song "Werewolves of London."
