A 68-year-old Tecate man survived after being stung nearly 100 times by killer bees last Friday, San Diego TV station KGTV reported.

A medical doctor brought Pablo Gomez to a hospital in La Mesa, where doctors had a short window of time to save his life.

“I lost my vision, and I started shaking,” Gomez said.

“When we arrived, there were several hundred bees on him. He was covered head to toe,” paramedic Jason Christofferson said. “The victim was stumbling and attempting to run from the bees.”

The massive swarm of Africanized bees were relentless, following Gomez everywhere for at least 15 minutes until paramedics arrived.

According to the San Diego County Health Department, most of the bees in San Diego County are Africanized bees. Their venom is no more potent than honeybees, but they attack in far greater numbers, earning the name killer bees.

Gomez said he did not see the hive until his weed eater accidentally hit it.

He compared the pain he felt to getting punched and said his body then went numb.

The bees were so aggressive that Christofferson had to use a powerful hose to get the bees off Gomez.

Gomez eventually passed out from the venom inside his body. Four days later, he was still plucking out stingers from his body.

Gomez said he was waiting for a professional bee keeper to clear out the rest of the bees.
