N.Y. Toddler Chokes To Death On Popcorn At Theater

VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. -- A 3-year-old boy choked to death while eating popcorn at a Long Island, N.Y., movie theater, while watching the sci-fi movie "Alien vs. Predator" with his family. It happened Sunday night at the Sunrise Multiplex Cinemas on Long Island. Deontea Riley and his brother and parents were eating from a small tub of popcorn when the mother said she looked over and saw that he was choking. His parents rushed their son out of the theater, where they performed the Heimlich maneuver without success. The father said he tried everything he could, including putting his finger down the child's throat, but nothing worked. Police arrived shortly afterward and tried to clear the boy's mouth and perform CPR. But the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. His body was taken to the Nassau University Medical Center morgue pending a medical examiner's report.
