Celebrate Chinese New Year 4699
2001 Is Year Of Snake
While the West celebrates the year 2001, it's the year 4699 according to the Chinese lunar/solar calendar, based on movements of the sun and moon.
According to the Chinatown Online Web site, the Spring Festival, known in the West as the Chinese New Year, is the oldest and most important festival in China. It celebrates the Earth coming back to life, and the start of plowing and sowing.
New Year's Day is spent feasting, showing off new clothes, praying in temples and visiting friends and relatives.
On the 15th day, the end of the lunar month, houses are decorated with colorful lantern displays and children carry lanterns in a parade for the Lantern Festival.
According to the 12-symbol Chinese horoscope, this is the Year of the Snake. Those born under the symbol are supposed to be diplomatic, charming, deep-thinking and romantic, but they can also be stingy with money, vain and unfaithful in marriage. The snake can bring upheaval, revolutions and disasters.
Celebrate the day by sending an e-card to a friend.
