Two adults and the bus driver were also taken to a hospital. At least two air rescue helicopters were called to the scene to transport victims. Most of the children on the bus were ages 6 to 14. They were attending summer camp and were going on a field trip. The bus is from the Migrant Association of South Florida, based in Boynton Beach, Fla. The tractor-trailer, registered to Ropco, Inc. of Orlando, is a flatbed tractor-trailer that appeared to be carrying wooden pilings. The accident happened at about 10 a.m. on the southbound Florida Turnpike. FHP officials said the bus crossed into the path of the tractor-trailer."It appears that the bus was in the center and the tractor-trailer was in the right, and for some reason the bus got into the path of the tractor-trailer," Lt. Pat Santangelo said. "The tractor-trailer hit the bus with its front to the bus' right side. It caused severe damage on the bus. In fact, the front motor part of the tractor-trailer is in the interior of the bus."The turnpike was closed in both directions.
